IMPACT EXPRESSED AS SOCIAL VALUE
The Community Coach and Role Model Development Programme (CC&RMDP) is expected to achieve important outcomes for both coaches and participants. Community coaches will gain the qualifications and develop the abilities required to deliver high quality coaching sessions, which will lead to them securing part-time employment with Rhondda Netball. The programme will also increase thier confidence and self- esteem and improve their future career prospects; we anticipate that this will also lead to increased aspirations in terms of coaching and/or their career. Community coaches also have much less chance of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) at any stage of their lives, as they will have qualifications and skills highly relevant to the Government’s efforts to increase levels of physical activity.
The training of these community coaches will enable Rhondda Netball to offer netball to a greater number of participants, who will thus achieve the benefits in terms of health and fitness, confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes toward sport already reported by current participants.
The social value of the outcomes of the CC&RMDP over 3 years has been calculated as follows:
Coach qualifications leading to employment and greater career aspirations £114,994.08
Increase in coaches’ individual confidence £15,466.80
Economic saving through coaches not becoming NEET £17,028.00
Increases in health, fitness, confidence, self-esteem, positive attitude to sport £186,332.40
Total value of outcomes: £333,821.28
Cost of programme: £110,550.00
Social Return on Investment Ratio: 3.02:1
So for every £1 invested in the CC&RMDP, we expect to return just over £3 of social value.
Note: The above figures have assumed a drop-off of 4 coaches after training and a further 3 in each of the next 2 years, and that the remaining coaches progress as expected. Participant value has been adjusted for the number that might achieve these benefits elsewhere if netball coaching was unavailable, and is based on junior coaching only; further value will be added if these coaches take on adult coaching in Rhondda Netball’s Back2Netball sessions which are in high demand. Also not included is the possible impact of the coaches in inspiring younger girls to consider becoming coaches themelves. Full calculations are available on request.
