Having established a successful foundation since our launch in September 2016, we are strategizing our operation for development and expansion, in particular the development of our young coaches.

Throughout Year 1 our focus has been delivering the product and establishing a firm platform within the communities we operate. Our delivery has demonstrated quality through the people we have in post and their recruitment of their volunteers, now we wish to recognise and reward their hard work through the provision of a structured training programme that will offer opportunity to individuals to develop their coaching skills, build confidence, leaderships skills and generally increase their employability and add value to their CV’s or further education applications.

Evidence of Need

We currently have 5 x Head Coaches, all aged between 19—27, and all at various stages of family / relationship status. We are preparing for the future of our operation by investing in the training and development of the next generation of coaches, ensuring continuity of service when one of our current head coaches needs to step down for family or other reasons. The Skills, Training & Development Programme creates a progression pathway from Volunteer level to Head Coach or even Management for those who wish to pursue a career in sport leadership and coaching. By ensuring we are continually investing in our young people, we can ensure the longevity and sustainability of our operation.

What, How and When

The Programme will provide all coaches with a nationally recognised coaching qualification from Welsh Netball. All Head Coaches will be trained to a UKCC Level 2, and all Trainee Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches to UKCC Level one standard. All coaches will receive certificates awarded by the nationally recognised awarding body, for them to add to their CV / Academic portfolio.

Trainee Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches will undertake a training plan to develop their coaching confidence, skills

and session planning. Each coach will have a training plan to follow that will be monitored by the Head Coaches, and assessed through both self assessment and Head Coach assessment.

All coaching staff will receive DBS checks / updates and Child Protection courses. Head Coaches will all undertake First Aid at Work training.
